It's that time again!
I coordinate a group buy for fruit from Haas Farms near Yakima WA. This year it looks like there will be two group buy opportunities again! Each will require a minimum of 200 boxes of fruit. Max that will fit on his truck is a little over 300 boxes so place your order early. To be fair I will honor your requests in order of payment.
Current number of boxes ordered ~ 125 ~ I will update this # every evening if you want to follow along.
Volunteers needed: As in the past, if anyone is able to help me unload the boxes from the grower's truck to my covered porch the morning of delivery I would be very grateful for the help. There are usually 200-350 boxes weighing appx 25 lbs each, so quite a lot of lifting. After I take inventory and pay the grower, volunteers get their orders first. Please email me if you would like to help this way. Thank you.
Please note: This is not organic fruit, but Haas is conservative in his spraying. His family eats this fruit too. In fact, they usually do the picking and packing too. One thing I love about this grower is that he is serious about allowing the fruit to ripen on the tree for great flavor!
I ask for payment in advance with your order which I hold in a separate account set up at Bank of America for collecting funds so I can make one payment to the grower when the fruit arrives. Please make check out to me, Dana Hunt, as I will write one check for all of us to the grower. Thanks.
Address for mailing payment by Thursday Sept 10th: Dana Hunt PO Box 988 Duvall WA 98019
Orders & $ due by Sun 9/13 6:00 pm Please include the following with your order to help make pick up run smoothly. 1. your name, 2. phone number, and 3. geographic location (ie city)
I will email you when your check arrives so you will know I have it.
Pick-up is at my home in downtown Duvall. Tues. 9/15 between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. I have a covered porch, but no storage facility for your fruit. I email a map with driving directions for pickup with your order confirmation.
If you arrange for someone other than yourself to pick up your order, please notify me by email in advance. I do check off orders as they leave to ensure everyone gets their fruit . Thanks for your help.

$14 box O'Henry Peaches (approx 23 lbs.) ~ freestone and super honey sweet! This is my all-time favorite canning peach! The harvest will be medium to large size this year.
$14 box Freestone Peach (approx 23 lbs.) ~ There will be another freestone canning peach available. It will be either Angelus Or August Lady depending on ripening and picking schedule. Both are excellent for canning and similar to the O'Henry variety. Note: I really enjoyed these peaches last year! $12 box Golden Supreme® Apples (approx 24 lbs.) ~ Medium size apple. Sweet like a golden delicious but don't bruise as easily, have a red blush. Good for fresh eating, salads, sauce.
$12 box Red Delicious Apples (approx 24 lbs.) ~ Medium size apple. Good for fresh eating, salads. Not recommended for pies, baking, or freezing.

A little about me... I will admit I do this for selfish reasons. :-) I like to can for the winter months and find that group buys are a great way to do that. When I lived in Arizona I participated regularly in a group buy there. When I moved here, I decided to search for a new group buy coordinator. Since I didn't find one, I started researching the fruit stands on my way to Tri-cities when we traveled to visit relatives. Later I began researching the suppliers to those fruit stands and that is when I found Haas Farms. I have a "special account" set up with Bank of America here in Duvall that I use to deposit any money collected for group purchases. So it is kept separate from my family funds. If for any reason I receive the fruit for less than estimated... I return the extra back to you. I am not in this for profit, but it is a lot of work to coordinate. Please understand I am doing my best to make this a smooth and pleasant experience for all of us. :-)
Some info I have been able to locate about different varieties of fruit...
Apples: Golden Supreme - an open-pollinated seedling of Golden Delicious. Sweet like a golden delicious but doesn't bruise as easily. - A medium sized apple - Greenish yellow to golden with a red blush - Firm cream-colored flesh that provides a sweet juicy flavor. - Good for fresh eating, salads, sauce. - It can be kept for a few months in refrigerated storage - Lasts about 5 days on the counter
Peaches: Angelus - Late Freestone Variety - Large, firm, round fruit - Bright red over yellow undercolor - Nice mild flavor, internet research listed it as a replacement for Elberta
August Lady - Late Freestone Variety - (This newer variety has O'Henry in its parentage) - Large, firm, round fruit - Rich, red color - Exceptional sweet flavor
O'Henry - Late Freestone Variety - This is my favorite peach - Large, firm, round fruit - Orange with dark red - Honey sweet Flavor
